Hi, and a very warm welcome to our site. Let's start off with introducing ourselves, we are Hessel and Helen Wiersma, founders and owners of Cattery Mo. Around 2013/2014 we were seriously considering an expansion to our family which at that moment consisted out of ourselves and two quirky house cats ( Daan & Ed ). To that end we were looking for a nice, loving and social cat to complete our motley crew.
After having visited different shows to see what was out there, and researching the various character traits of the various breeds, our search quickly led us to the Maine Coon. A breed that has all the qualities combined that we were looking for. A breed with great appearance, temperament, absolutely majestic and extremely loving.
Now that the search was narrowed down, it was time to look for a breeder in which we could trust, to enrich our lives with a healthy and highly sociable Coon. Preferably a red Coon. At a show in Heemstede, The Netherlands, we fell in love with a big red boy and gathered our courage to contact that breeder via email. Omkara Summer Sun of Aureus Fera was the one that had won our hearts, and of whom we would gladly have had offspring from. The very friendly and more than helpful proprietors of that cattery (Wendy and Kristof), unfortunately did not have a suitable combination that would deliver our wished red boy. They however pointed out that if we wished, they could bring us in contact with the breeder which had provided them their majestic Summer Sun.
We then came in contact with Pilar and her Omkara Cattery. A more than renowned and acclaimed breeder in Valencia, Spain. We immediately had a great and special connection with her, which gave us absolute confidence in her Cattery. She entrusted us the care of a boy with whom we instantly fell in love. Omkara Name the Game, whom we've dubbed Mo for short. A fluffy, big red boy with the kindest of nature you can think of. A while later Omkara Montana, Pip, followed, a feisty little girl who in her own time, became a great mom and is now already a grandmother.
Our love and passion for the Maine Coon is the foundation of the Cattery. Which we have started as of 2016. For us, maintaining the old Maine Coon line to which we have been blessed to obtain via our dear friend Pilar, which we have been witness of, at her cattery and at our Flemish friends at Aureus Fera, is eminent and paramount. We want to keep the breed as pure as possible and maintain the Maine Coon's wild appearance and sweet nature.
Cattery Mo is a proud member of FiFe as of 2016 & TICA since 2019, as well as member of Felikat and the Maine Coon Breeders association RMC ( Rasclub Maine Coon), and as of 22/10/2018 I ( Hessel Wiersma ) am a graduate of the PawPed G1 course and as of 21/05/2019 a graduate of the PawPed G2 course.
